Claire Elizabeth Barratt, Stretch & Relaxation Class:

“A Post Thanksgiving Stretch”
Monday, Nov. 29th at 5pm,  Donations accepted

In this class, I use a technique known as “Passive Stretching”.  In this society, where the term “passive” is seen as a weakness, this may not sound immediately appealing.  But it is absolutely the most effective way of releasing tension!

Based on the concept that a contracted muscle and a stretched muscle are in two completely opposite states, much of the focus in this class is on fully relaxing a muscle before it is able to go into it’s full capacity of elongation.

We move through a series of stretches, beginning with a fluid tempo and including the whole body in movement.  Then we gradually decelerate into slower, deeper lengthening of specific muscle groups.

This class has a meditational quality, continuously using the breath as a tool for release.

Laura Hope-Gill: Family Poetry Workshop Series:

Nov. 16th, 4 to 6pm
$10 includes parent & child

The workshop I have in mind is a 2-hour workshop for parents and children in which both parents and children draw and write poems characterizing themselves in the following personifications:

an animal

a plant

a kind of rock or earth formation

a body of water

a system of weather

We will then make books out of what we’ve created, as a sort of family gift.

It can have a theatrical component in which families create a 2-3 minute theatre piece engaging these.
